Smokeless cigarettes, also known as electronic cigarettes, are mostly a mystery to many people. It sounds very bizarre but the concept and design is really fairly simple. Even so, there are probably a few things you didn’t know about these devices, if you have even heard of them at all.
First of all, an electronic cigarette does not switch on and light up some sort of flame. That is one of the most common misconceptions. The atomizer inside the e-cigarette uses heat or ultrasonics to turn the liquid into vapors that are inhaled. There is usually an LED light on the tip of the cigarette that lights up when you take a puff. However, this is only for appearance. The e-cigarette actually does do perform any action that lights a flame or burns anything. It works with simple vapors.
Another common misconception is that smokeless cigarettes are too expensive for the average user. Do a little research on the best e cig brands, and it is easy to see that the opposite is actually true. While the initial kit will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 dollars, the cartridge refills are actually much cheaper than traditional cigarettes. The cartridges last about the same length of time as a pack of cigarettes, but they cost much less. For example, a pack of cigarettes might cost 7 or 8 dollars including the high taxes, whereas the cartridges for an e-cigarette run about 2 dollars. Obviously those savings will add up pretty quickly to make up for the initial cost of the kit. After that the savings are like extra money in your pocket each week.
The last thing that may surprise you is that you can “smoke” just about anywhere with smokeless cigarettes, and smoking restrictions in public places do not apply to e-cigarettes. Since there is no smoke or ash, and vapor is inhaled instead, these devices are exempt from smoking bans. The only place this does not hold true is on airplanes, but in bars, restaurants, and so forth you can puff away legally. For many people, this convenience makes switching to e-cigarettes a worthwhile change.
